What the job includes

Compatibility checked first

Not every thermostat works with every system, and a mismatch on a heat pump shows up as a bill, not an error message. We check before we recommend one.

Installed and configured

Wired, connected to your network and configured for your equipment, including the settings that matter in this climate and that nobody changes from the default.

Zone control

Where the property has zones, or should have them, the thermostat is set up to run them properly instead of fighting one against another.

Away from home

Useful for a second home, a rental or a property that sits empty part of the year, which in Southwest Florida is a lot of properties.

Will a smart thermostat work with my air conditioning system?

Most modern systems, yes, but not all, and heat pumps in particular need a thermostat that controls them correctly. We check what you have before recommending a model, because the wrong pairing does not throw an error, it just runs the system badly and you find out on the bill.

Do smart thermostats actually save money?

They help when the schedule matches how you really live, and they do nothing at all if the setpoint never changes. The saving comes from not cooling an empty house, not from the device itself. In a property that sits empty part of the year the difference is much bigger.

Can I control it while I am away?

Yes, from your phone, which is the main reason owners of second homes and rentals ask for one. You can also see whether the system is actually running, which is how people catch a failure in an empty house before it becomes a flooded one.

What is zoning?

Zoning splits the house into areas that are controlled separately, so the upstairs and the downstairs, or the west-facing side and the rest, stop fighting each other through one thermostat. It is one of the fixes for uneven temperatures, and whether it is the right one depends on the ductwork.

What should I set the thermostat to when the house is empty?

Warmer, but not off. A closed-up Florida house with the air conditioning switched off climbs in humidity until things start to grow, and that costs far more than the cooling you saved. A few degrees up, with humidity still controlled, is the setting that protects the property. It is the main reason owners of seasonal homes want a thermostat they can see from wherever they are.

Can a smart thermostat help with humidity?

Some models hold a humidity target as well as a temperature, and paired with the right equipment that is genuinely useful here. On its own a thermostat cannot remove moisture the system is not removing, so if the house feels clammy the thermostat is not where the fix starts.

Do I need Wi-Fi at the property?

For the remote features, yes, and it needs to be a connection that stays up when nobody is there. A thermostat that loses the network in an empty house still runs its schedule, but it stops being the early warning that something has failed, which is half of why people install one.

Which thermostats do you install?

The one that suits your equipment. We are not tied to a single brand, and the choice is driven by what your system needs in order to be controlled properly, particularly with a heat pump or with zoning, rather than by whatever is on offer this month.

Will I get an alert if something goes wrong while I am away?

Most connected thermostats will tell you that the house is not reaching temperature or that humidity is climbing, which in an empty property is the warning worth having. What they cannot do is diagnose the cause. When you get that alert, call +1 (239) 851-5644 and we will find out why.
